Recently,
opened poetry commissions, and as someone who absolutely loves their work, I knew I had to buy one.Of course, I wanted something based on themes I resonated with, but I also secretly hoped Hazel would insert a bit of themselves into the piece.
The final result turned out even better than I could have expected! Interested in purchasing a commission of your own? Click the button below to check out Hazel’s shop:

Okay, now, without further delay. Here is Fear of Perception by Hazel Allen:
Strange. Stepping out of the house,
Attempting to go to work and hoping—
Nay, pleading internally to not be seen.
My mind fears perception, cowering in
Its corner as I head to the train.
But still I go, letting the sun drape
Over my face like newly bought curtains—
And turning my music on to quiet
The sounds of laughing silhouettes.
They can’t get me here, in this route
I’ve taken one or two million times.
Weird. The train sits delayed as I try not
To think of the eyes minding their business.
All glued to little screens, so ignorant of
Me huddling in the corner of the train,
Feeling like I’m being judged for existing.
But alas, I make it to the airport, and
Ready to leave all this anxiety behind.
Though in reality, it’s the end of one cycle
And onto the next one, rewinding any
Newfound confidence back to slate one.
Endless, revolting, yet I still carry on.
