For Day 7 of the National Poetry Month Challenge hosted by
, the challenge is to list off your five favorite poets and then write a poem inspired by their work.I have read a lot of poetry in my life, but I truly believe the best poetry I’ve ever read has been during my time here on Substack.
This is why I have chosen to list my top 5 poets on Substack and dedicate this piece to them and their incredible work. Here they are, in no particular order:
And here is my poem inspired by them:
Hidden messages Hiding in the every day. Things I take for granted. You show me in a whole new way.
Your work speaks to my soul. Crashing through the walls, Surrounding my inner sanctum, from which my creativity calls.
I see both of us reflected in each poem. Glimmers of your pain and your story. Honesty abounds through your stanzas, As you mine from your rich quarry.
I feel seen in everything you write. We show each other our scars. An invisible, unseen connection, burning brighter than the stars.
With merely your words, You have given me a home. A place where I am understood. No longer cursed to roam.
We writers don’t often see, The power our stories hold. To feel seen and heard, in a world gone cold.
So thank you for all you do. You've relit the fire in my soul. To continue telling my stories, the ones that make me whole.
Thank You For Reading! Here’s Your Musical Pairing
It’s been a rough few years for me, but now I feel like I’ve finally found a home to call my own. To all the writers and poets here in the community. This song is dedicated to you.
Bradley! I'm literally about to cry. I'm so grateful for our friendship and the home I have on Substack, all thanks to you. This is such a beautiful poem.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your poem. And the song!
