Thank you so much, Carlton! I’ve been experimenting with these flash fiction pieces while also furthering my connecting universes. It’s been a lot of fun, and a great learning experience!
You're welcome. I plan to start a horror fiction podcast here on Substack. I have no experience with podcasts, but I like that it's connected directly to Substack. I could see creating a storyline where one part is read, one part is listened to, and one part is visual. We'll see. It's just a thought right now.
Great story! It's funny to read some comments regarding the audio tapes, and though I definitely see that, I got a really X-Files vibe from the story, with a little Loki thrown in for good measure (I hope you see those as the compliments they are intended to be). Now forgive me for getting all nuts and bolts here, but I would love to pick your brain about your work flow, equipment, software, etc. And how the heck you get something this well produced in a day. 👊
Haha, thank you! I absolutely love X-files and Loki, so I think those are great comparisons! Both certainly played a role in inspiring my horror mythos that I’m building across many of my stories.
I would be happy to talk shop and share some of my methods/software as well! I can send you a DM if you’d like and answer any questions you may have. 😁
I love the way you play with style in your narration. Like we’re watching it all unfold in our head. This one was particularly haunting. It reminded me of those old video game audio tapes. They were very well done.
That was me! I've been doing voice acting for several years with a friend of mine who is an animator, so I've been trying to narrate stories here on Substack as well!
I don't narrate every story, but one thing you'll find is that all the stories set in my fantasy universe called D'veen are narrated by me playing a character named Finton Merrybrook.
Ah ! Very cool!!! You’re talented! I’m still learning Substack and I get lost a lot ! 😂 I did read some D’veen stories. I think they may have been stories based in your world but written by others. The world was super cool. So I’ll be sure to go back on your page and listen and read ! I really liked that btw. Listening to and being able to read along. So nice
Thank you! And yes, you are correct, I hosted a challenge a while back where I asked people to write stories set in D'veen. I want it to be a collaborative universe in the future where anyone can tell their own stories (so long as they adhere to the lore).
So, it's cool that you read some of those! If you check my pinned post, the Content Directory, there's a section with links to D'veen stories. You'll also find links to all the stories like this one that are set in my horror universe (The Synaptic Spraw) if you want to try and draw connections between them and this one.
Thank you again for the kind words and for your support!
Very good storytelling. I've also been planning some hybrid media. I like the way you integrated the elements. Well done, Bradley.

I would love that (the DM). Just reach out whenever it's convenient. 🤘
That took a twist. The second part of the tapes were unsettling. Your references are always so fun! Nice nod to The Pentagon!
I can't wait for the adventures to infiltrate.

Wow, thank you so much! I really appreciate this feedback, especially the part about video game audio tapes, that's exactly the feel I was going for!
THIS IS FANTASTIC
That backwards audio is so unnerving but I love it! 😁😁
Yesss! Haha, I'm glad you liked it!
That was really cool! I love the audio tapes and the song at the end.. very nice.
Thanks for checking it out, Rachel! I love experimenting with different formats and styles, so it's awesome to hear you enjoyed this one!
So fun! There’s so many ways to present the stories. I love what you did. Was that you doing the voice of the scientist or did you get a voice actor?
