For Day 5 of ’s 30 Days of Fright Challenge, the prompt was “Whispers in the Walls.” This poem is my entry.
Please enjoy…
I had a bad feeling about this place, I called it home, but it was a strange space. Signs everywhere I should have seen. Presentable, but it had never been clean.
Holes in the walls, born from fits of rage. Unseen rot, surrounding me like a cage. A place that had seen so much sadness. Enough to drive anyone to madness.
I heard whispering voices before long, untold secrets laced their painful song. Tales of treachery, pain, and blasphemy. A house built on a foundation of agony.
Long before I called this land my own, centuries of blood had already been sown, deep into the ground with forbidden rites. My head spun as if gazing from dizzying heights.
I was an unwilling participant now. To the voices, I must now bow. They issue commands from the walls, and now I’m trapped in these endless halls.
I can either choose to follow their will, Or it will be my blood that they spill. The rituals that started on this lands, Won’t end until I meet their demands.
Endless suffering and sacrifice, Gives them form, like a cosmic vice. They want to taste life and walk the Earth, And the ritual will give them their birth.
This house where I live is not a home. It is nothing more than a wretched tome, Filled with stories of a place long cursed, and ancient gods who cannot sate their thirst.
They say that fire cleanses all. I will be the one to watch this place fall. End this charade, wipe the slate clean. Drop the curtains and then it's end scene.
