Bradley, this was great. The pacing is relentless in the best way. It’s not just creepy, it’s commanding.
The line that really lodged in my brain?
“This house where I live is not a home.
It is nothing more than a wretched tome,”
Yes. That entire stanza was beautiful , like Lovecraft got handed a match and told to finish the story with style. The whole piece feels like a ritual in verse , something that shouldn’t be read aloud, but we do it anyway because it’s just that good.
Thanks for setting the bar high and still making it feel like there’s room around the fire for the rest of us. Hope you do another challenge.
Haha, thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed this one, it's been a while since I did a poem, but I'm happy with how this one turned out.
I was absolutely going for a Lovecraftian horror vibe, but it's also inspired a bit by where I live currently, and my desire to get out of here. That's a very long story, but I feel like I was able to channel some of that frustration here into something productive, haha.
And of course! I want everyone to feel welcome and inspired, because you've all done the same for me.
And yes, there will absolutely be more challenges in the future! 😁
I read just the rhyming words to see if there’s a poem in the poem. Sir…you clever, clever poet.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the full measure of your work.
But, there are layers here…
Thank you, Jarret! It's been a little while since I published a poem, so it was nice to try my hand at one again.
And you're absolutely right! The rhyming is very intentional in my poems and carries its own weight for sure. Really appreciate you checking it out!
the last lines is great
Thank you! I always try to give my poems an impactful ending, so I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
your poetry is great, thank you
You’re quite welcome, I really appreciate you checking it out!
Wow! Chilling. Well done indeed. And that ending... 🤌
“They say that fire cleanses all.
I will be the one to watch this place fall.”
(Mic. Drop.)

Loved it!
Very nice.
Thank you! Been a while since I did a poem.
I smell the scent of Lovecraft here. Great job!
Haha, you know me all too well! Lovecraftian horror is my bread and butter. So glad you enjoyed it!
