Way to set May off with a bang! It's just about the start of a new term for me, so I'll be cheering from the sidelines while I'm sneaking in lines on my current WIP.
i love this idea!!! sadly i don't think i could ever produce short stories in a single day and edit and publish them too, plus i'm 20 days late to this (oops), but i'm hoping to go at a slower pace and use your prompts to try writing short stories because this one is SO intriguing! can't wait to read all the entries!!!
Totally understandable. I myself am several days behind due to internet issues where I am.
I’m hoping to eventually launch a prompt repository where you’ll be able to find all the prompts I’ve done for this challenges and prior monthly challenges as well!
Going forward, I’m also looking for ways to maybe do weekly prompts or something that allows for more time. In either case, please feel free to try your hand at any of them and tag me when you post!
There’s no expiration date on any of these as far as I’m concerned. 😊
That’s what I like to hear! This time around I also designed a lot of the daily challenges with poetry in mind as an option alongside short fiction! Wanted to bring in my fellow poets as well this time around.
I hated every word of what I wrote so I erased it. I can’t write stories that fast ever again. I don’t think I can pump out 1500 words with a 24 hour window. Maybe I’ll submit a poem. I’ll keep an eye out for a prompt that gets my neurons into hyper mode.
Hey Chris, great question! Yes, you can feel free to use the day’s prompt image. A mention in the caption that it came from me/The Writer’s Journey is all I ask in terms of attribution. Thanks!
I'm new here--what's the etiquette on posting these to my Stack? I'm curious if people send these out to their subscribers, or just post in stealth mode?
I think, with one post a day, I would probably stealth mode it? Or... is there a better way? Any thoughts appreciated from anyone reading this. Thank you!
Hey! Great questions here. I personally post once per day, but I’m moving towards posting Monday-Friday long term. My personal approach to these challenges is to send the posts out to subscribers because the amount of views I get is exponentially higher that way.
I also encourage folks to tag me in their posts for the challenge so I can read and restack your work.
The stealth mode option works as well, but organically you probably won’t see as many reads if you go that route.
Oh, this is the wisdom I needed. I should probably share this (if I can figure out if it works the way I think it should). I don’t know if anyone else grapples with this, but I do: I’m overly courteous. “I don’t want to annoy my 49 subscribers.” But hey--you're right--if annoying them daily helps me find more subscribers… the math works out! 😉🤣🙏

Thanks Andree! Glad to have you joining in spirit, and best of luck with both your new term and the WIP! Rooting for you as always. 😁
Let the writing begin!
🥳🥳🥳
Amazing vibes. Cant wait to read so many new words
This is an epic first prompt going to be some intensely emotional or horrific stories coming today! 🩵
Yeah! @Sarah Rusch gave me the prompt and I was like oooohhhh…
My story for the prompt should be out later today. 😁

And like with Flash Fiction February, I'll definitely be lurking around to see if anything catches my eyes 👁️👁️👁️

Sounds like a great way to differentiate from the previous challenges by incorporating both into the mix!
Thanks 2D. Nice substack. I just posted

All good! Keep in mind that the 1500 words is a maximum word count, so you can do any length that works for you, but poetry is a great option as well!
In either case, feel free to tag me so I can check it out! I’d love to read it.
Will do

Bradley. Very cool. Can't wait to read everything
Thank you! I appreciate the support!
Posted mine! Now back to work for me! Cant wait to read yours!
Just read and restacked yours! You were our first entry into the challenge today, which is awesome.
Hoping to get my story up sometime this evening. It’s going to be an intense horror, but I like where it’s going so far.
thanks! oooh nice!
Hey Bradley is it ok to use the prompt image as our image for our story post with credit by you I'm assuming?

Haha, yeah I think most subscribers would be happy to hear from you daily more often than not (it’s why they subscribed 😉).
The only time it becomes annoying for folks is if you’re sending stuff 3 or more times per day. Anything beneath that is typically well received.

Haha, as a massive God of War fan, I approve (and appreciate) this reference.
